Chow Chow Research Project Opportunity
Dayna L. Dreger, PhD, a researcher with the National Institutes for Health NHGRI Dog Genome Project is asking for our help in collecting samples for researching the genetic variants for coat type and color in Chow Chows as well as leg conformation (genes that contribute to the normal leg structural variation across and within breeds).
For an explanation of the project go to http://research.nhgri.nih.gov/dog_genome/ Dr. Dreger will send you the DNA kits for blood or saliva samples. They would prefer blood. She is also requesting a photo of the dogs sampled to verify color and coat type which can be sent in digital format to her email address.
This is an excellent opportunity for us to participate in a project of this magnitude with the same group and research that started with the mapping of the canine genome. Please take the time to participate.
